Man jailed for molesting infants

Thirty-six-year-old Kelbert Sandy of Lowmans Hill was sentenced to three years on three counts of indecent assault.

Sandy was accused of indecently assaulting three girl children between ages four and six earlier this year. {{more}}

When he was arraigned at the start of the criminal assizes on Tuesday, Sandy pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court heard that on February 13 two children aged four and five were playing in the public road at Campden Park. As he passed by, he held each of them, kissed them on their cheeks. He then pushed his hands under their underwear and fondled their vaginas.

Later in the year, on June 19, Sandy indecently assaulted a six year old girl at her home. The court heard that he went to the child’s home to ask for ice around 2.30 p.m. The child was at home with her mother watching television. As she went to pass the ice to the accused through a window, he pulled her through. He opened her pants, pushed his hands under her underwear and fondled her vagina.

Justice Louise Blennman, on imposing sentence on the accused, noted that he had two previous convictions for indecent assault. She said small children like Sandy’s victims had to be protected from people like him.

Sandy was sentenced to three years on each charge. However, the sentences are to run concurrently.

“I hope this is a warning to all those persons who prey on little girls like these.
