The Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal this week freed two men convicted of sex crimes.
The court on Monday delivered a judgement quashing David Jobe’s conviction and his two sentences of eight years which were imposed by the High Court when he was found guilty of incest earlier this year. {{more}}
Jobe, a resident of Glenside, Marriaqua, was charged last year with three counts of having sexual intercourse with his daughter. He was found guilty on two counts and sentenced to eight years on each. He however appealed his conviction and sentences on three grounds.
Jobe’s lawyer Ronald Marks had raised the issue of misdirection of the jury by the trial Judge, challenging the manner in which the trial judge treated the issue of recent complaint. He had also argued that the jury did not deliberate for the statutory two hours allowed.
The court also squashed the conviction and eight-year sentence imposed on Deidrick De Bique of Troumaca.
De Bique was found guilty of having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.
