50 cases for October assizes

Some fifty cases have been proposed for the October sitting of the criminal assizes.
Director of Public Prosecutions (Ag) Colin Williams told Searchlight last week that the list includes six cases of murder.{{more}}
Williams said that of the six murder cases, five are retrials and the other is a new matter.
Among the five murder cases expected to be a feature attraction to the public is the case involving Daniel ‘Compay’ Trimmingham who was sentenced to hang last year for the murder of sixty eight year old Albert ‘Bertie’ Browne of Carriere.
‘Compay’, represented by prominent lawyer Kay Bacchus-Browne, appealed his conviction and sentence and the Appeal Court ordered a retrial.
Also expected to attract some attention is the retrial of Harry Wilson of Gomea. He was convicted in 2003 for the 2002 murder of his two- year-old daughter at Campden, a crime which he alleged his wife committed. His wife and another child were hospitalised with lacerations in the area of their throat.
Meanwhile, the list of cases proposed for the October assizes will have an additional three matters which are being sent from the Magistrate court for sentencing by the High Court.
The sitting of the criminal assizes is expected to commence on Tuesday 6 October.
