Speculator on ganja charge

A Rose Hall speculator was charged for possessing sixteen pounds of marijuana last Saturday.

It is alleged that the woman was a passenger in a motor car travelling to Kingstown when police stopped the car. Reports say she was seen passing the bag to the driver who refused to take it.
When Murray appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday, she pleaded not guilty to the charge. When the question of bail arose the police offered no objection, having said that she had no previous conviction. Her lawyer, Arthur Williams, told the court that she travels to St. Maarten to speculate once per month. He said she travels on a boat which leaves on Sundays and sometimes returns on Thursdays.
In light of the concerns raised of her livelihood, Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman granted Murray bail in the sum of $5,000 with one surety. The Chief Magistrate also ordered that she report to the Rose Hall Police Station every other Friday, between 6.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m., until the matter is disposed of.
