Cousins charged in carnival violence

At least one national here will not be attending this year’s carnival celebrations, unless he breaches a court order.
On Monday, the Serious Offences Court imposed an order on Winbert Mapp, a.k.a. Winbert Cordice of Arnos Vale, banning him from attending any event which forms part of the carnival activities. Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman ordered that he be arrested if he is seen at any carnival activities.{{more}}
Mapp’s ban followed his and his cousin Cameron Mapp arrests, last weekend.
They were charged for unlawfully and maliciously causing grievous bodily harm to Andy James of Kingstown with intent.
The incident allegedly occurred at Heritage Square around 2.00 a.m. last Saturday. Reports allege that James was armed with a knife and that during the fight Cameron Mapp sustained an injury to his head which took six stitches. Cameron Mapp was granted $3,500 bail with one surety while Winbert was $5,000 bail. They were placed on 7.00 p.m to 6.00 a.m. curfew and ordered to report to the nearest police station every Friday, between 6.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. until the matter is finished.
The Mapps are scheduled to return to court on September 15, this year.
