Two Arnos Vale men on robbery charge

Two men from the Arnos Vale area are expected to reappear before Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman on June 21 this year on a joint robbery charge.
Brian Alexander and Brian Cordice appeared before the Serious Crime Court last Week Thursday as preliminary inquiries into the alleged crime got started. They are accused of robbing Georgetown resident Sean Samuel of $10,000 worth of jewellery.{{more}}
The incident is said to have occurred around 8.30 p.m. on March 8, this year at a squatting settlement in Arnos Vale commonly referred to as ‘Pole Yard’.
It is alleged that Samuel was on his way home from visiting his girlfriend in Sion Hill when he stopped off a bus and went to visit a female friend at ‘Pole Yard’. While at his friend’s house, two men, one armed with a cutlass, attacked him and tore off his gold chains and bangles. During the attack, Samuel sustained an injury to his hand.
Police have recovered some of the items alleged to have been stolen by Alexander and Cordice.
During last week Thursday’s hearing of the preliminary inquiries, the prosecution, led by Inspector Cuthbert Horne, called only two witnesses before the matter was adjourned to a later sitting. The court heard from Samuel, the virtual complainant, and Donald Peters, a Justice of the Peace who witnessed the accused’s caution statements.
Cordice is presently serving a five year sentence imposed by the High Court earlier this year. In February, he pleaded guilty to a burglary charge and was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay compensation of $5,000 by March 31. He was also placed on a dusk-to-dawn curfew for three years. After he broke the curfew order on the evening of March 8, he was taken back to High Court and a custodial sentence was imposed on him. Alexander was released on bail.
