3 for attempted murder trial

The Serious OffenceSS Court last week committed a Vincentian labourer, an Indian cook and a Trinidadian technician to stand trial for allegedly attempting to murder an Indian businessman.
After hearing evidence from a number of witnesses, including the state’s star witness Julius Diamond, the court found that a case has been made out against Othneil Bowens of Campden Park, Jayamma Srinnivas of India and Hassan Mohammed of Trinidad for the attempt on the life of Indian businessman, Vicky Rajani.{{more}}
It is alleged that on the night of February 12, this year, all three accused went to Rajani’s home where they tied his hands and feet, placed a plastic bag over his head and placed a disposable handcuff around his neck after they had robbed him of sums of money, his passport and other items.
It is further alleged that the three accused persons, along with state witness Diamond, had planned the crime before executing it and that Jayamma, who was a friend of Rajani, had called him hours before.
Jayamma had arrived at Rajani’s home ahead of Bowens, Mohammed and Diamond.
The preliminary inquiry began before the Serious Offences Court last week Wednesday and concluded the following day. Bowens and Mohammed were committed to stand trial last week Wednesday, while Srinnivas was committed last week Thursday. The trial is expected to be heard this year.
