My classmate Cornu (John Horne)

by Paddy Corea

CORNU….(cornu is latin for horn)…
If I remember correctly I gave him that nick name in Form 2A at SVG-BGS
The comradarie and respect from those embryonic, halcyon days carried over into our lives over the years.

CORNU was an elegant, tall, soft spoken GENTLEMAN.

RESPECTED and RESPECTFUL. A man of DETAIL and RESEARCH.

A RATIONAL man not subject to emotional outbursts or quick anger.

A MAN OF PRINCIPLE and PURPOSE.

Obviously being a CULTURE LOVER, especially a STEELBAND and CARNIVAL AFECTIONADO, ENDEARED US TO EACH OTHER.

Over the years we would “bounce up” in Woodbrook POS, J’Ouvert morning andwith others of our ilk (Lad Winsboro, Priest Jacobs, Cardo the MIGHTY PAGAN Timm)

We would enjoy Trinidad carnival. Obviously the same goes for SVG carnival…

He always alluded to the fact that it was I who first put a carnival costume on his back.

As the Minister of EDUCATION and CULTURE, I know he tried exceptionally hard to take both Education and Culture to a higher level, in the PEOPLES interest..

On those fronts especially, his passing will leave a gaping hole in our society.

Many of our generation are scattered around the world but I know they too will be paying their respects and MOURNING the loss of our dear friend and CULTURE WARRIOR.

YOU will be greatly missed…… R.I.P.  my friend.

My condolences and wishes of peace to his family.
