Autism Society Hosts Tea Party At Prime Minister’s Residence

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Autism Society (SAS) held an “enjoyably successful” Tea Party on Monday, April 2, ‘World Autism Day, at the Prime Minister’s Residence at Old Montrose.

Eloise Gonsalves, wife of the Prime Minister was the generous patron of the event, which benefitted from lovely weather and a very good turnout.

Apart from sumptuous delicacies on tea plates, guests were treated to various types of entertainment, including a moving vocal rendition by 17-year-old Eric George; a poetic dramatization by Anna Barnwell and her company of supporting teachers; a demonstration of African head-wrapping by Mrs Kagbala; a video presentation on autism families; an exciting Chinese Auction and musical renditions by BAM.

The month of April is recognized internationally as the Month of Autism and in an effort to heighten the awareness of the Vincentian public to the realities of persons on the autism spectrum in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), SAS is holding a series of activities, including a fun walk on Saturday, April 7, beginning at 6 a.m., from the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and ending at CIBC FCIB on Halifax Street, via the Leeward Highway and Level Gardens route. Baked sweets and savouries would be on sale in the vicinity of the bank. On Sunday, April 8, there would be a radio call-in programme on NBC Radio 705.

An awareness banner has been mounted on the National Trust building on Halifax Street, and two windows on this building are encased in royal blue lights, royal blue being recognized as the international colour for autism.

A release from SAS said the organization is extremely grateful for the support received from a number of individuals, organizations and bodies, including the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
