Vincentian author expresses ideas about ‘Bond of Love’ in new book

How we create healing in the universe and how we can bring the world to peace are just some of the ideas expressed in the book, ‘Bond of Love, a Global Affair’.

This publication is written by Marjorie Cuffy, a retired nurse. It was launched locally at the Youlou Arts Centre at Villa on Tuesday and according to the author, is meant to open the world of ideas to a new mode of thinking and looking at the planet.

Cuffy said that she is non-denominational, and the book is not a theological or theosophical book, but a spiritual book and somewhat a thesis on love.

“It’s about God’s love and says that love is all there is. It says that God is the creator of all things and God is love and if he created all things, he created us, he created the universe and everything within the universe, then everything has to be love. There is nothing that isn’t love so that is the maxim, the ethos of the book,” explained Cuffy, whose favourite Bible passage is Psalm 23.

Cuffy added, “It also tries to define love as an element that is existential to all life and all life is built on love and it tries to correct the common parlance of love as a romantic notion or feeling. It’s more like a passion for life and not a passion for romance.”

Cuffy was born in Chateaubelair and moved to Biabou at a young age. She attended the Biabou Methodist School and then the Girls’ High School. She later taught at the Bishop’s College Kingstown and worked at the Public Library before migrating to the United States. She has worked in Canada and Africa and says that all over the world, people are the same in many ways.

Cuffy thinks that the breakdown in many societies comes from misunderstanding.

“Our misunderstanding of ourselves as one with everyone else and that we are all children of God, who are here to follow our own purpose and have our own purpose in life, and we have been looking at the flaws of others, instead of looking to heal ourselves,” she commented.

She added, “Mankind has found a way to misunderstand the ways of God and so man’s inhumanity to man devolved from our misunderstanding of the teachings of old; so, what this book tries to do is correct it, those teachings, to deny those, and to bring us into a new way of thinking, a new mode of thinking about the universe and ourselves.”

This is Cuffy’s first book, but she is writing others.

The book may be bought at balboapress.com, marjorieacuffy.com, Barnes and Noble and Amazon for US$30.99 (soft copy) and US$33.95 (hardcopy). A Kindle version is also available.
