Housing under consideration

Now that Clico has moved into its own home on Bay Street in capital city Kingstown, there are plans to provide other homes for other Vincentians.
Chairman Leroy Parris threw out the suggestion last Monday, but Clico will have to compete with the Housing and Land Development Corporation for a share of the market. {{more}}
Parris spoke of Clico’s provision of housing units in sister territories such as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Kitts Nevis and St. Lucia.
“We are hoping to partner with government and the private sector to establish a Clico residential community here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and hope that this can become a reality very soon,” Parris said during his address.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves queried the price at which the units would be sold.
Dr. Gonsalves, in his feature address, drove straight home to the housing issue. He advised Parris to look within Clico itself and speak to one of his colleagues Beresford Phillips, chairman of the Housing and Land Development Corporation. But Gonsalves was emphatic that Clico could not match the price offered by the HLDC.
“It is difficult to see anyone competing with the Housing and Land Development Corporation,’ Gonsalves blurted. He also boasted of being ready to share “technical expertise on building houses”
