No one above the law

No one above the law

Most Vincentians are legitimately concerned about the allegations being made against Senator Ashelle Morgan and the Assistant Director of Public Prosecution Karim Nelson in the matter in which a resident of Diamond was shot.

They are concerned because the allegations of very serious criminal behaviour are being made against officers of the court who hold high office in the land; concerned because after almost a month, no one involved in the matter has been charged with an offence; and concerned because Vincentians are being told to “hush their mouths” when they articulate their concern or question what they have heard.

And the public’s concern transcends the partisan political divide – the allegations that are in the public domain thus far would concern any right-thinking citizen.

Therefore, the nation is depending on the Commissioner of Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure without undue delay that a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the matter is conducted and that charges be brought against anyone for whom there is sufficient evidence of wrongdoing.

No man is above the law, and at the same time, everyone is entitled to the presumption of innocence. In this and every case, justice must not only be done, but it must manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done.
