Pregnancy and dental care

During pregnancy, there are lots of hormonal changes going on within the body of the mother-to-be, along with deficiency of vitamin A, D. All these factors contribute to gum problems, like gingivitis. So, in order to prevent this, you can use oral anti-bacterial mouthwash, along with brushing and flossing.

Ten tips about dental care during pregnancy:

1 – Brush your teeth twice daily and floss at least once a day. Use fluoridated toothpaste.

2 – Don’t fear dental visits during pregnancy and inform your dentist regarding your pregnancy.

3 – While sitting in a dental chair, don’t cross your legs. This obstructs the normal blood flow.

4 – Keep yourself relaxed while at the dental office.

5 – Keep a well-balanced diet by eating organic fruits and vegetables.

6 – Avoid sugary foods, as they can induce caries formation.

7 – Drink lots of water.

8 – Use toothbrush with small head. It will reduce gagging.

9 – While brushing, take adequate time, and concentrate fully on the brushing technique.

10 – Chew xylitol containing gum after meals. It helps neutralize the acids and fight against the bacteria causing caries.
