Esther to read for 2nd Masters

The British High Commission announced on Tuesday that Esther Richards has been awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for 2005 by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Richards will study for the MSc in Environmental Engineering and Project Management at the University of Leeds.

Richards, who is the Solid Waste Manager at the Central Water and Sewerage Authority, holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the West Indies and a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto.

On completion of the MSc she intends to return to St. Vincent where she hopes to be involved in protecting the environment through the development of appropriate management systems to deal with issues such as wastewater, solid waste and pollution.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to outstanding individuals in both the public and private sectors who are considered most likely to make an important contribution to their country’s development.
