69-year-old is 12th person to die of COVID19 in SVG

A 69-year-old man is the 12th person to die of Covid-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said in a release that the man succumbed to COVID-19 disease while in isolation at the Argyle Isolation Facility on Tuesday, May 4. The stated cause of death is COVID-19 Pneumonia.

The man is the second person to die from COVID-19 in SVG in just over one week, the previous person being an 87-year-old man who died on April 26 at the Argyle Isolation Facility.

“Six new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 110 samples processed on Tuesday May 4, 2021 resulting in a positivity rate of 5.5 per cent,” the release said.

“One additional new case was reported from samples processed on April 30, 2021. The  updated positivity rate for April 30, 2021 is 9.9 per cent.

“No new recoveries were noted over the reporting period. One hundred and forty-four cases  are currently active and 12 persons with COVID-19 have died. One thousand, eight  hundred and eighty-nine cases of COVID-19 and 1733 recoveries have been recorded in St Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.

“The public is urged to continue to use masks, sanitize, physically distance and get vaccinated to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” the release said.
