Georgetown man drowns while spear fishing

Initial reports indicate that 36-year-old Zayir  “Sling Ding” Massiah of Chapmans Village, Georgetown drowned off of a lonely beach in South Union today, October 25, while spear fishing.

The Georgetown resident is thought to have encountered difficulties while diving with a group of persons at around 12 noon.

It is said, by someone who came to the beach after the body had been recovered, that the persons he was diving with retrieved the body.

The coast guard, police and ambulance were called to the scene, but there was nothing that could be done.

Massiah now rests in the mortuary at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, and there is expected to be a post mortem carried out on Tuesday.
