Christopher to defend her Queen of Calypso title tonight

The 2019 Queen of Calypso competition takes place tonight, Sunday June 23, at the Russell’s Auditorium at Stoney Ground.
Last year’s winner, Joanna “Nubian Princess” Christopher is expected to defend her crown against 16 other calypsonians.
Competing are Shaunelle Mc Kenzie, Phylicia “Nubian Empress” Alexander, Denise “Lady D” Stephens, Rolmina “Rolie” Matthews, Ronella “Singing Ronella” Lavia, Marvo “Lady Marvo” Morgan, Moesha Thomas, Kristiana “Singing Kristy” Christopher, Cleo “Cleopatra” Hendrickson, Gillian Smart, M’ Riah “Siah” Robertson, Cecile “Lil Bit” King, Shena Collins, Bianca “Bria” Matthias and Stacy Kelly.
“The show promises to be an exciting and competitive affair,” President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Calypsonians Association (SVGCA) Earl “Caba” Bennett said on Friday while adding that the SVGCA is encouraging persons to come out in their numbers to support the women and the artform.
He added that the competition was reintroduced last year (after 15 years) to empower female calypsonians, and it was a success.
Natasha Nurse, better known as Sexy Suzie, Trinidad and Tobago’s 2019 calypso queen will make a guest appearance.
The show begins at 8:00 pm and the admission fee is $20.
