Funky Business named Road March for 2018

‘Funky Business’ by Fimber ‘Fimba’ Jardine has been adjudged the Road March for 2018.

A release from the Carnival Development Corporation said the song scored 49 points, putting it ahead of ‘Amen’ by Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper, which scored 46 points. In third place was ‘Eggplant’ by Antonio ‘Small Circle’ Edwards with 38 points.

Jardine, who resides in the United States, is having a particularly good Carnival season, he having also won the Ragga Soca competition with ‘Funky Business’ last Saturday night.

The song, written on the ‘Stinger’ riddim, became part of the national conversation when in early June, Julian Francis, general secretary of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) removed the song from the playlist of Star FM, a radio station owned by the ULP. Francis said he did so because he considered the song’s lyrics “lewd’ and inappropriate for air play.

Many persons have opined that the action by Francis inadvertently made the song more popular.
