SVG Educators to take part in Regional Home Economics Conference in T&T

The Caribbean Home Economics Association Inc. (C.A.H.E. 1972) will host its 25th Biennial Conference in Trinidad and Tobago from April 13-16, 20 under the theme: “Home Economics, AI, Values, and Attitudes: Interrogating the Nexus.”

The Home Economics Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) said it will be participating “in this significant regional event, with a small but enthusiastic contingent of educators representing the nation”. A release from the Ministry of Education states that this year’s conference promises to explore the evolving intersection of Home Economics and emerging technologies—particularly the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education and daily life.

“St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a proud history of engagement with C.A.H.E., having previously hosted the Biennial Conference in 1993 and again in 2011,” the release states.

It said the upcoming conference will feature a series of pre-conference and in-conference workshops designed to deepen the knowledge and skills of participants across various Home Economics domains.

These workshops span diverse areas, including: Culinary Arts: Roti making, Dhal Puri, Doubles, Samosas, and Tobago’s celebrated Blue Food.

In the area of Clothing and Textiles, the focus will be on: Techniques in African head wrapping, Sari draping, and Cosmetology with a focus on Make-up Artistry.

In Education and Technology they will address: Lesson planning with AI, exploring AI’s role in the classroom, and a Journal Writers’ Workshop—topics which are expected to generate high interest among educators as schools increasingly embrace AI-enhanced learning platforms, the release adds.

The Home Economics Association of SVG said it views this conference “as a powerful platform for both personal and professional development.

“ It provides educators with the opportunity to exchange ideas, learn new skills, and remain at the forefront of pedagogical innovation.”

Looking ahead, the Association said it hopes for greater private sector support, which would enable larger contingents of local educators to attend future conferences.

“Broader participation would not only strengthen professional capacity but also elevate the national profile of Home Economics as a discipline critical to sustainable living and lifelong learning.”

The Home Economics Association has also expressed thanks to all individuals and organizations who have supported the teachers in any way—whether through financial contributions, encouragement, or other forms of assistance.

“Your support has made this opportunity possible and is deeply appreciated,” the release added.
