US to impose 25% tariffs on countries buying oil, gas from Venezuela from April 2

United States President, Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social said that countries which purchase oil from Venezuela will have to face 25% tariffs on all their trade with the United States beginning Tuesday, April 2.

In the post, Trump claimed Venezuela was responsible for sending thousands of high-level and other criminals, who he described as murders, and ‘people of a very violent nature’. Among them was the Tren de Aragua, a transnational criminal organisation from Venezuela, the country which the US government claimed has been very hostile recently.

The US administration recently rounded up hundreds of Venezuelans, which it claimed belong to the organisation and deported them to El Salvador where they have been placed in what has been described as “a notorious prison”.

Trump said a ’Secondary Tariff’ would be imposed on Venezuela, where countries that purchase any oil and/or gas from that South American country, would have to pay a 25% tariff to the US on any trade in which it is involved.

“All documentation will be signed and registered, and the tariff will take place on April 2nd, 2025, LIBERATION DAY IN AMERICA,” the post said, adding that the necessary agencies have already been notified.
