Chess Association continues distribution of chess sets to schools

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Chess Federation (SVGCF) is this week set to continue distribution of chess sets to schools across St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

In a release, the federation said the distribution is part of their mission to expand the playing of the game of Chess across SVG. Through the instrumentation of president, Israel Bruce, the SVGCF said it secured a gift of 400 chess sets to aid its development programme, a number of which have already been distributed to primary and secondary schools, the aim being to provide an allotment of sets to get clubs with a minimum of 20 members started. Thus far the St Vincent Grammar School, Girls’ High School,

Thomas Saunders Secondary, St Mary’s R.C Primary School, Calliaqua Primary, and Sugar Mill Academy, have received sets. The federation said this week, a minimum of 10 additional sets will be distributed.

The SVGCF said it is making sure that the schools have the resource needed to get their chess clubs going with the ultimate aim to deliver the first ever National Schools Chess Championship.

St. Martins Secondary, Bethel High School, Adelphi Secondary, North Union Secondary, New rounds Primary, Georgetown Secondary, Stubbs Primary, and Diamonds Government are among the schools to receive official visits and chess sets this week.
