Children receive Urology surgical interventions from World Paediatrics team

Eighteen children received surgical intervention from a World Pediatrics (“WP”) Urology team at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), between Monday, November 11, and Thursday, November 14, 2024.

In a release WP said the surgeries were preceded by clinic day on Sunday, November 10, where 41 children were evaluated for concerns including constant urinary tract infections, kidney/bladder stones, bladder concerns associated with neurological disorders and any issues surrounding the genital area. Twenty of these children were from other countries in the region- Barbados, Grenada, St. Kitts, Saint. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, and Dominica.

Dr. Doug Coplen, Paediatric Urologist was the head of this team that also comprised Dr. Thomas Bohannon, Anaesthesiologist; Joanna Thomeczek and Jeanne Vogt and O.R nurses. They received local support from Dr. Jasmine Davy-Ellis and as well as other staff at the MCMH.

Lead surgeon, Dr. Coplen expressed his pleasure in returning to SVG, emphasizing the opportunity to engage with new families during this visit.

“It’s always rewarding to connect with the community here, and be able

to share our expertise with the local medical volunteers who participate in the clinics as well. These trips provide a chance to contribute to the overall well-being of those in need and we always look forward to continuing this

important work,” he said.

This team was sponsored by the Maria Holder Memorial Trust, and the staff, volunteers and families of World

Paediatrics has extended appreciation for this invaluable donation and the support given towards achieving the aim of healing children in the Caribbean.
