World Paediatrics congratulates Vincentian nurse on completing post-graduate Paediatrics nursing diploma
World Paediatrics has commended a Vincentian nurse with over 15 years of experience on being the first local to complete a post-graduate diploma in paediatric nursing. In a release, World Paediatrics a non-profit organization dedicated to providing advanced, tertiary medical care to children of the Caribbean, said it continues to place strong emphasis on capacity building through implementing auxiliary projects aimed at improving the knowledge and competencies of local medical practitioners and healthcare providers. Through partnership with The Shaw Centre for Paediatric Excellence (“SPCE”) and the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, World Paediatrics was able to support the educational journey of nurse Ann Cyrus. This makes her the first Vincentian nurse to benefit from this opportunity of continuing her education in Paediatric Nursing, the release states.
“Not only does this mark personal achievement, but also one step forward in strengthening the healthcare system in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” the release adds, noting that with her experience and new training Cyrus “is well-equipped to deliver exceptional care to the children and families of our communities”.
“Education is a powerful catalyst for personal growth and transformation, empowering individuals to enhance their lives and open doors to new opportunities,” the nurse is quoted in the release as saying, adding that the programme enabled her to further develop her critical thinking skills and opened her eyes to new experiences.
“Something about being surrounded by persons with the same enthusiasm for nursing and walking across the stage at graduation, increased my passion for paediatric nursing,” Cyrus concluded.
Programme director at SPCE, Dr Clyde Cave is said to have expressed pride in their work in Barbados “elevating the care available to children through human resource development, education and research,” and as part of their outreach to the Eastern Caribbean was pleased to have sponsored nurse Cyrus to pursue her postgraduate diploma studies.
“We are delighted by Ann’s success, and confident that her new knowledge and skills will work together with her Vincentian nursing experience to elevate the care available to children in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Dr Cave is also quoted as saying.
Congratulations were also extended by executive director of World Paediatrics – Caribbean, Lauren McIntosh-Shallow, and Senior Nursing Officer at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, Viola Richardson who pointed out that Cyrus “is the first nurse in SVG with a diploma in Paediatric nursing”.
Chief Nursing Officer at the MCMH, Peggy DaSilva, also extending congratulations on behalf of the nursing fraternity said, “You are indeed an inspiration to many. I urge you to continue to light your world, as you utilize the knowledge and skills gained, to help to advance the health and well being of our paediatric population”.
