Rotary Clubs of SVG launch stationery drive for family victims of Hurricane Beryl
ROTARY CLUBS of St Vincent and the Grenadines have launched a stationery drive aimed at assisting low-income families and those directly impacted by hurricane Beryl. In a release, the clubs said this is in response to the widespread devastation caused by the hurricane which swept through St Vincent and the Grenadines on July 1, 2024. From August 25 to September 7, 2024, donations of stationery, supplies and other essential items will be collected at various drop-off locations across the mainland , the release states. The four clubs have placed distinctive pink donation boxes at the named sites so persons can contribute directly.
In addition to physical supplies, the Rotary Clubs said they have also established the Hurricane Beryl Relief Fund to accept monetary donations which will be used to purchase additional supplies and support ongoing relief efforts for affected families.
The donation locations are: Coreas Pharmacy Kingstown; Coreas Pharmacy Downtown; Coreas Pharmacy Arnos Vale (Joshua Centre); Coreas Pharmacy Diamond; and Dental Arts Clinic, Arnos Vale. The Clubs are seeking to obtain the following: pencils, pencil cases, pens (black, blue, and other colours), erasers, sharpeners, safety scissors, rulers, glue, markers, Geometry sets, calculators, notebooks (small line, big line), colouring books, activity books, sketch pads, construction paper, acrylic paint, paint brushes, and crayons.
Also needed are other essential items such as: raincoats, umbrellas and book bags.
The Rotary Clubs said they are deeply committed to promoting Basic Education and Literacy, particularly during times of crisis.
“We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of their circumstances, and that, “this stationery drive is our way of ensuring that even in the face of adversity, the children of our community can continue their education”.
The Rotary Clubs are urging community members, businesses, and organizations “to support this vital initiative”, indicating that every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of these children and their families.
