Police begin annual Summer Programmes
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), yesterday, July 15, began the first of two summer programmes it is offering for 2024.
The first programme opened with phase one of the SVG Coast Guard’s summer programme that is catering to a total of 180 persons aged 14-18 years. A release from the police states that this programme provides hands-on training in seamanship, navigation, maritime safety, and boat handling. Participants also will delve into the history of the Coast Guard Service in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), and develop essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and financial literacy. Due to the demand, the programme is being offered in three phase each involving 60 participants.
Phase one runs from July 15-23; phase two from July 29-August 12; and phase three from August 12-20. A senior Coast Guard officer told SEARCHLIGHT that the programme has outgrown the limited space at the Coast Guard base and it is therefore being held at the Calliaqua Town Hall. However, the duration has been extended for each batch that will allow for the hands-on skills to be offered on board the Coast Guard vessels.
The annual police band summer programme also is being offered this year, starting from July 23, and closing on August 23, 2024, under the theme: Harnessing Young Minds During Summer Time. This programme is designed for children aged 9-15 years old, and aims to provide a comprehensive and rewarding experience, the release also states.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn to play a variety of musical instruments, and engage in a range of developmental activities and presentations from various departments within the RSVGPF and other institutions. The Police said the initiative promises to be an engaging and educational experience for all involved. Interested persons may collect registration forms at the Police band room in Old Montrose.
