Telfer elected president of SVG Association of Toronto
Cordel Telfer was elected to serve as president of the St. Vincent and Grenadines Association of Toronto (SVGAT), at its annual general meeting on Sunday January, 28, 2024.
Telfer previously served full terms as president in 1999 and 2000 and again in 2011 for a short period, a release from the Association states.
June Ellis was elected as a new director for a one-year term, joining Telfer, Delcina Jardine-Reckley, Erline Granderson, Francine Burke and Gideon Exeter as continuing directors. Four directors in the last administration- Dennis Bucchan, Prudence Morton, Jim Lewis and Kenneth Farrell did not offer themselves for re-election.
The annual report for the period January to December 2023 revealed a successful year for the SVGAT. In that period, the Toronto Harbour Boat cruise and the SVG Independence anniversary celebrations returned following their suspension as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also in 2023, the Association was able to establish sponsorship for 2024 to 2028 through its Adopt-A-Child Program for 12 new students who are attending primary schools stretching from Owia to Chateaubelair on the mainland, and Bequia to Union Island in the Grenadines.
The Association continues to meet on the last Sunday of each month with Members’ Business Meetings held on alternate months from January. In the other months, discussions and presentations are held on various topics of interest to members and the wider community.
