Police seize 37 illegal firearms and ammunition in 2023
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said in 2023 they seized 37 illegal firearms and a quantity of ammunition as effort continued to confiscate and or remove illegal/illicit firearms from the hands of criminals and off the streets of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The police said in a release that this was part of the Operation “Taking Illegal Firearms off the Streets- TIPHOS”.
The firearms seized ranged from 9 mm calibre to a 12 gauge shot gun, pistol, and a home made shot gun.
The government through the security forces will be instituting a gun amnesty to run from March 1, 2024 to May 31, 2024, and the police are asking members of the public to hand over any illegal weapons in their possession ahead of the expiration of the amnesty in order to avoid prosecution.
“Play your part in reducing crime and violence in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Together, we can make SVG safer and more peaceful,” the police release states.
