ECCB Governor Commences Country Outreach Mission to St Kitts and Nevis
The Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Timothy N.J. Antoine commenced his Country Outreach Mission in Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis yesterday, February 27 with a courtesy call on the Governor General, Dame Marcella Liburd GCMG, JP.
The Governor General welcomed the ECCB Governor and his delegation and noted that the role and work of the ECCB could not be underestimated, a release from the Bank states.
Dame Marcella enquired as to how the ECCB could do more to engage with ordinary citizens, especially the youth and expressed the view that the ECCB’s resilience and transformation agenda was right for the current times. The Governor General also enquired if there was evidence that gender equity could assist the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) countries with achieving their economic and other national goals.
Governor Antoine and his delegation also met with the Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and his Cabinet of Ministers on February, 27 to make a presentation on the ECCU’s Performance and Prospects.
The Governor is continuing his 10 day Mission with a meeting with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce at the St Kitts Marriott Resort today. The Mission which will continue through to March, 8 will also include meetings with social partners inclusive of civil society, labour unions, churches and youth; followed by a session with bankers in the Federation, on March,2 and a live television interview during which the ECCB Governor will field questions from the media on a range of financial, economic, banking and national development issues.
Governor Antoine and his six member delegation will also call on the Premier of Nevis and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis, Mark Brantley, after which they will meet with social partners on Nevis. The ECCB team will engage members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps on March, 7 and the Country Outreach Mission concludes on March, 8 when the Governor and his delegation meet with the media in St Kitts and Nevis.
After concluding the outreach in Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis, the Governor will arrange missions to The Commonwealth of Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda.
As part of his 2022 round of Country Outreach Missions, the ECCB Governor visited Anguilla in May, Montserrat in June, Saint Lucia in July, St Vincent and the Grenadines in September and Grenada in October.
