SVG receives paediatric Pfizer vaccines through US-funded COVAX

The US Embassy in Bridgetown delivered nearly 4,800 paediatric doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on Friday, July 8.

“These highly effective, life-saving vaccines can be used for children ages 5-11.

“This donation is in addition to the 35,100 vaccines already provided to SVG by the United States and more than 70,000 vaccines donated through the COVAX facility, which the United States supports with US$4 billion in financial commitments,” a release from the US Embassy in Bridgetown said.

Last year, the United States also supported SVG in its fight against COVID-19 through bilateral donation of vaccine doses and the donation of two field hospitals valued at over US$1.3 million.  Additionally, through USAID, the United States undertook a US$4.7 million response effort to support SVG in responding to the effects of the La Soufriere volcano eruption.

“The United States is committed to leading the global COVID-19 response and will continue to support the health and wellbeing of the Vincentian people.  We are proud to work with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to end this pandemic and return to health and prosperity,” the release said.
