National Council of Women calls for justice for all

The National Council of Women (NCW) wishes to join the call for justice in the incident which has left 62-year-old Cornelius John nursing a gunshot wound to his foot.

The NCW strongly condemns all forms of violence perpetrated by men against women. And so, too, the organization equally condemns all forms of violence against men.

The instant matter where Senator and Deputy Speaker of the House, Ashelle Morgan is alleged to have used threatening language to 62-year-old Cornelius John while allegedly pointing a firearm at him; and having been identified as one of three persons who were present at John’s home in Diamond on April 13, 2021, when he was shot, is cause for serious concern.

It is not up to the NCW to determine guilt or innocence of accused persons but to ensure that the wheels of justice are properly oiled. We believe that all persons must have access to justice because to deny any party access to justice is not in the best interest of a country, and is a flagrant disregard for the rule of law. To be sure, we see it as our duty to call for justice for all mankind and to ensure that justice is not only done, but seen to be done.

This matter has attracted wide public interest and the people are seeking answers. To this end, the people want that assurance that the crime against Mr. John, as alleged, is being investigated thoroughly, with completeness and with a high standard of professionalism.

The public should expect no less, and no effort should be spared in ensuring that the administration of justice is on par with highly acceptable norms.
