Girl Guides host second reading competition
The Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will host the Association’s second reading competition today, Friday, September 20, at the Girl Guides Headquarters in Level Gardens from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. The competition is being held to mark International Day of Peace which is recognised all across the globe and will also be a part of the Association’s activities to recognise International Literacy Day and Orange Day in the month of September. The competition will be held under the theme “Read Up, Speak Up, Lift Up”.
Six Girl Guides in Forms 1 and 2 across the Kingstown/Grenadines Division will read messages promoting peace, non-violence and anti-crime positions. The participants include:
1. Ajani Dyer; No.27 Kingstown Girl Guides Company,
2. Curtisha Phillips; No.29 Kingstown Girl Guides Company,
3. Kaige Cruickshank; No.1 Kingstown Girl Guides Company,
4. Moriah Matthews; No.3 Kingstown Girl Guides Company,
5. Rhea Williams from the No. 28 Kingstown Girl Guides Company, and
6. Ronkia Benjamin; No.10 Kingstown Girl Guides Company.
All participating Girl Guides will receive a Peace Medal of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the participants will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards based on their overall scores. The judges for the Competition are: Jonathan Roberts, Athalie Soleyn, and Semonique Harry, who are specialists in the field of literacy.
The Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines remains committed to strengthening the ideals of peace, within the communities of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and will work towards the sustainability of the competition.
The Association held the competition for the first time in 2018 and the top three participants were Azaria Commissiong, Ajeah Hope and Saniyah Antrobus.
