Opposition names Kay Bacchus-Baptiste as a Senator in Parliament
Kay Bacchus-Baptiste is now an Opposition Senator in the House of Assembly of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
Leader of the Opposition Dr Godwin Friday, on Monday advised Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne that Bacchus-Baptiste will replace Dr Julian Ferdinand as Senator in the House of Assembly.
In September, Bacchus-Baptiste, a lawyer, was also named as the candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the West St George constituency, replacing Ferdinand, who unsuccessfully contested the seat for the NDP in 2015.
âThe Executive and members of the NDP thank Dr Ferdinand for his years of positive and committed contribution to the Party, the people of SVG and wish him all success in his future endeavours.
âThe NDP is confident that Mrs Kay Bacchus-Baptiste as Senator will be an asset in the House of Assembly and will continue to provide positive representation to the people of West St. George and by extension St Vincent and the Grenadines,â a release from the New Democratic Party (NDP) said.
Under the Constitution of SVG, the Opposition is allowed two senators in Parliament. The other Opposition Senator is Marcia Barnwell.
