The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) has been informed of âincreased activitiesâ at the Kick âem Jenny submarine volcano located north of Grenada (12.18°N, 61.38°W).
The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) of Grenada continues to collaborate with the Seismic Research Centre (SRC), University of the West Indies to monitor activities at the Kick emâ Jenny volcano. The Seismic Research Centre indicated that there was an eruption on the evening of Saturday 29th April, 2017 which was felt in some parts of Grenada.
The Government of Grenada through the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) has therefore imposed a 5km (3.1 miles) exclusion zone around Kick âem Jenny. All mariners are asked to strictly observe this restriction and to continue to monitor releases from the Government of Grenada, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), and the Seismic Research Centre (SRC).
Currently there is NO Tsunami threat for St. Vincent and the Grenadines or the region, and these activities are in no way related to our La Soufriere volcano.
Residents in the Southern Grenadines are asked to continue to monitor and mariners to strictly observe the exclusion zone.
The National Emergency Management Organisaton (NEMO) will continue to update the general public on activities at the Kick âem Jenny submarine volcano.
