Big men must honour their promises
EDITOR: At a recent press conference, the Prime Minister Gonsalves advised, “when promises are made we must exert ourselves to put the promises into effect”. With that statement Dr. Gonsalves spoke for the majority of the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
But I am obliged to venture, that he Dr. Gonsalves taking cognizance of the very important position of authority with which he has been entrusted by the people, should set the example.
He must demonstrate that he is making a conscientious effort to effect his promises at all times.
In the regard I wish humbly as a concerned citizen to draw attention to some of the promises that Dr. Gonsalves has made to the people as far back as the year 2000.
(1) The revitalization of the Banana Industry.
(2) The serious program of repairs to feeder roads.
(3) The re-employment of those three teachers who contested elections and were not successful. We all remember that he had signed an agreement with the Teachers’ Union to effect certain initiatives but he did not honour his signature.
(4) More than twelve years ago Joel Butcher was promised some assistance with his housing needs. This was after he and “Old George” Daniel had successfully completed a
marathon historical walk around the island. There has been no report that that promise was effected.
Trustworthy men will make only promises they can keep. Responsible honourable men will/must keep the promises that they made.
