North Leeward Road in Peril
EDITOR: It is good to hear and know of the road repairs programme that is currently going on and plan to take place in the near future. While compliments are in order, we, the residents of North Leeward are waiting to hear about the road overlooking the Cumberland Power Plant. This road [has] been written about several times by this writer, yet to this day, nothing has been done and we are still to hear any update in terms of work to be done on that road. As we all are aware and so also BRAGSA and the Ministry of Works, this road is a disaster waiting to happen. For years now, the road has been sinking and continues to sink. Sadly, but true, to this date nothing has been done and no word from those in authority concern[ing] remedial work to that road.
Is it that the engineers have no solution for that road? Or is it that someone is dragging their feet?
Or even worse, is it that BRAGSA and the Ministry of Works with its engineers are playing politics? I would hate to think that no one cares, or that it is deliberately delayed so as to allow it to collapse and then it takes millions of dollars to rebuild and then we have a big publicity about how much is spent on that road.
If we are honest enough without politics, we would agree that it is urgent and very critical. It is my hope that some urgent attention be given to this piece of road. Failure to do so can be detrimental. Let us hope that it does not collapse and even worse, no vehicle will perish with passengers if the road ought to collapse.
I, therefore, call upon those in authority to give some urgent attention and let us have this road fixed.
After all, we have engineers who traverse this road. I refuse to believe that the engineers do not know what to do. Remember that a stitch in time saves nine.
