What can a person do to lessen the chances of becoming a victim of crime? 1. Donât walk or jog early in the morning or late at night when no one else is on the streets. 2. When out at night, try to have a friend or two, if possible, walk with you. 3. Carry only the money youâll need on a particular day. It may be best NOT to have ALL the money in the purse/wallet. 4. Donât display your cash or any other inviting targets, such as cell phones, or expensive jewelry and clothing. Ensure that you put away the money safely before coming out of the bank, credit union etc. 5. Occasionally glance over your shoulder to see if someone might be following you. If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street. If the person continues to follow you, move quickly toward an open store or restaurant. Donât be afraid to yell for help. 6. When parking, do so in well-lighted, open areas and look around before coming out of your vehicle to see if anyone suspicious might be lurking nearby. Thus, you can take off, if you need to. 7. If someone tries to rob you, give up your propertyâdonât give up your life!
