Should the Ministry of Education just turn a blind eye to these articles?

Editor: I strongly hold the view that teachers are solely responsible for the academic success of the students in their charge, as has been stated by Mr Philbert “PeeJohn” John in the Midweek Searchlight a few weeks ago.

Please answer these questions Mr PeeJohn:{{more}}

1. Do you know of any teacher who fails to put in marks in students’ report books and the students were unfortunately given the said books without the calculation of averages because the said teacher without good reason refused blatantly to carry out his/her responsibilities for which he collects a monthly salary?

2. Do you know of any teacher who consistently gets ridiculous grades on their students CXC General Proficiency Examinations after so many years in teaching, particularly at the graduate level?

3. Do you know of any teacher who comes to school very early but does very little to help in the administration of the school for which he/she is being paid a deputy salary?

4. Do you know of any teacher who is hardly present at school assembly and whose name for the said reason does not appear on the teachers’ list for that school activity?

5. Do you know of any teacher who goes to department meetings and contributes very little or nothing at all to the said meetings?

6. Do you know of any teacher who seemingly knows that he/she has some responsibilities only when the principal is not at school?

7. Do you know of any teacher who goes to class, gives the students work, then leaves, causing the principal to write a memo to staff about the issue?

8. Do you know of any teacher who should be prepared to answer hard questions by the Ministry of Education after the publication of your article and this one?

9. Should the Ministry of to Education just turn a blind eye on these articles? Think on these things!
