A misconception about Jehovah’s Witnesses

Editor: Some people have the misconception that Jehovah’s Witnesses forbid the bearing of children.{{more}}

This misconception is utterly absurd! Any honest observer can see and know that Jehovah’s Witnesses have children without the childbearers suffering any bad consequence, such as being expelled from the congregation, or being counselled.

Jehovah’s Witnesses have published magazines that include articles stating that children are precious gifts from God, a reward, to be trained by parents in a godly way. (Psalms 127:3, 4; Ephesians 6:4) For example, “The Watchtower,” a magazine published by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, in its April 1, 2008 issue, page 13, carried the title: “Raising Children in a Permissive World.” That article provided practical guidelines to assist parents in training their children successfully. Many other similar articles have been published by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

So it is totally untrue when some people say that Jehovah’s Witnesses forbid the bearing of children. Of course, it is a personal decision whether or not a husband and wife wish to have children, just as it is a personal decision whether or not an individual wishes to get married or stay single. (1 Corinthians 7:8, 9)
