Homicide Count climbs to 9 over Easter Weekend

Last Easter weekend, the holiest week observed by Christians around the world as they commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, was a bloody one across the mainland.

As of Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the homicide count in St Vincent and the Grenadines stood at six, but by Saturday, it had climbed to nine.

The blood letting started on Holy Thursday, April 17, when 20-year-old Diazhaun Jack, died after being shot along the Diamond main road.

A report from the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said the autopsy revealed that Jack died as a result of severe blood loss due to multiple gunshot wounds.

On the same Thursday, Glen labourer, Micheal ‘Boxer’ Richards, died in hospital where he had been receiving medical care having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Richards was shot on April, 1, 2025 in the vicinity of the Girls’ High School. He was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for treatment, but died.

Following Richard’s shooting, two suspects were apprehended shortly after the report was made. Two firearms believed to be connected to the shooting incident were also taken into police custody as evidence.

The body of Cuthbert Young, a 48-year-old security guard of Roseau, Sion Hill, was discovered lying outside his residence. A post-mortem examination revealed that Young died as a result of hypovolemic shock due to a bleeding peptic ulcer. Police disclosed that there was no evidence of foul play.

On April 18, Good Friday, at Colonaire, there was an altercation between two men that led to one receiving multiple stab wounds to his body. Later that day, in an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old from Georgetown was approached by a masked assailant who shot him in his hand.

On Saturday, April 19, Layou resident, Oranson Garraway was shot and killed while returning home from his father’s funeral. Police apprehended a suspect in connection with this fatal shooting.

The police are carrying out investigations into the killings and encourage individuals with information to contact any member of the Force.
