Six or more new ULP candidates for 2025 election
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves said the Unity Labour Party (ULP) will be fielding six new candidates for the next General Election expected to be held this year. On WEFM’s Issue at Hand programme on Sunday, March 23, 2025, the party leader branded the ULP as one that always seeks to refresh, and related that there will be six new candidates to carry the party’s fight as it seeks a sixth consecutive term in office.
The new candidates will represent North Windward, South Windward, Central Kingstown, West Kingstown, South Leeward, and the Southern Grenadines.
“We are having in the next elections, at least six new candidates….There may be other areas, I don’t know the final determination yet. Six out of 15 is pretty good counting in terms of refreshing,” Gonsalves said.
So far, the respective constituency councils have already selected candidates for the South Leeward- Attorney-general, Grenville Williams; North Windward, Hospital Administrator, Grace Walters; and Central Kingstown, former President of the SVG Football Federation, Marvin Fraser.
Commenting on Fraser’s selection on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Lodge Village Government School, Gonsalves noted that he is “a family man who is involved in community building activities”.
He added that the selected candidate is currently the president of the Avenues Football Club.
Gonsalves said at the selection exercise there were many new faces who would not usually turn up for a candidate selection and saw this as “a very good start.”
He spoke about plans to build a health clinic in Central Kingstown, with Green Hill and Lodge Village being seen as possible locations. Financing for this project is expected to come from the Saudi Fund.
