SVG to explore harnessing of energy from the waves
St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is looking to explore an initiative to obtain power from the sea waves.
Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, speaking on NBC Radio’s Morning Cup programme on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, said while in New York last weekend, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a Wave Power Pilot Project.
Also involved in the signing of the MOU were the Small Island Developing States Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilient Organization (SIDS DOCK), represented by their Secretary General Dr. Al Binger, and a sea-based energy group incorporated in Ireland.
SIDS DOCK is a United Nations (UN)-recognised international organisation established in 2015, with all the rights and privileges for addressing climate change.
Prime Minister Gonsalves said that with the signing of the MOU, SVG has taken a step toward renewable energy development, as the MOU lays the groundwork for a potential two-megawatt (MW) wave power pilot project on the north-east coast of SVG.
