PM Gonsalves: No human trafficking or exploitation of Cubans in SVG

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has rejected claims by the US government that regional governments are helping Cuba in human trafficking schemes.

The US government recently called on countries in the region to comply with international obligations and put an end to what they call the Cuban labour export programme in the Caribbean.

Dr Gonsalves gave the response of the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on the matter on NBC radio on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

He said that at present, the data is being gathered, and will be sent to the US State Department.

“We do not have any human trafficking or exploitation of Cuban professionals in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Gonsalved declared.

He pointed out that SVG “has a modern progressive regime of labour laws,” which the nation upholds. He added that we also take our obligations of international labour convention very seriously.
