NTRC’s iCode784 Introduces Robotics Category for 2025

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) has introduced a Robotics category for its 2025 iCode784 Competition.

The NTRC says in a release that this new category replaces the Secondary Idea Category and represents a major step forward in the competition’s commitment to fostering STEM innovation and problem-solving skills among young tech enthusiasts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

It said for the first time, participants will have the opportunity to design, build, and programme robotic solutions that address real-world challenges. This expansion aligns with the NTRC’s mission to equip future innovators with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology. Teams in the Robotics Category will be tasked with developing functional robots that solve specific problems, integrating mechanical design, programming, and automation.

Key updates for the 2025 competition also include changes to team composition and prize distribution. Each team must consist of two members. Additionally, mentors in both the Robotics and Secondary Mobile Application Categories will receive 20% of the prize money, with 80% awarded to the team members.

The 2025 iCode784 Competition features an updated prize structure with increased rewards across multiple categories, the NTRC explains in its release. In the Robotics Category, the prizes are set at $7,000 for 1st place; $5,000 for 2nd place; and $3,000 for 3rd place. The Secondary Mobile Application Category has also seen a boost, with winners receiving $10,000 for 1st place; $8,000 for 2nd place; and $6,000 for 3rd place. The Open Category now offers $15,000 for 1st place; $10,000 for 2nd place; and $7,000 for 3rd place, with an additional grant provided to the first place winners to support further app development.

For participants in the Secondary Mobile Application Category, students must develop and present their mobile applications based on the selected theme, which will be announced in the coming months. This ensures that participants remain innovative and focused on solving relevant problems through technology.

Further, the introduction of the Robotics Category highlights the growing significance of automation and AI-driven solutions in today’s world. By engaging young minds in robotics, iCode784 aims to spark innovation, enhance critical thinking, and prepare participants for future careers in STEM fields, the NTRC states as well. “As the competition expands, we encourage students, educators, and tech enthusiasts to seize this exciting opportunity and take on the challenge of designing the next big robotics breakthrough in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”
