Trinidad Journalist hoping to reignite interest in Literature
A Trinidadian journalist has published his first novel, with the hope that other books will follow, and this publication will help to reignite an interest in literature.
With close to 20 years experience as a journalist, Ryan Bachoo is now author of the novel, An Unending Search.
Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT about his accomplishment, Bachoo, who is the news gathering editor at Guardian Media in Trinidad and Tobago, said he developed a love for writing while in secondary school.
“My love for writing inspired me to write this novel,” Bachoo noted, adding, “I fell in love with West Indian literature at a early age.”
A former student of the Cowen Hamilton Secondary School in Moruga, Bachoo explained, “I grew up reading a lot of West Indian literature, from people like Samuel Selvon, V S Nipaul, George Lamming, Derek Walcott, and others”.
“Reading their works about Caribbean villages, I saw similarities with the village in which I grew up.
