On February 27, the Taiwan-based charitable organization “TX Foundation” under the leadership of its president, Liza Lin, along with CEO Freda Miriklis, and secretary Anna Hsieh, attended three ceremonies, a release from the Embassy of Taiwan in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) states. The ceremonies were in relation to the completion of a culinary vocational classroom and equipment at West St. George Secondary School; donation of assistive devices for the visually-impaired at Fair Hall Government School; and a science laboratory and equipment inauguration ceremony at the Troumaca/Ontario Secondary School. The value of the donations amounted to near US$110,000.
Minister of Education, Curtis King, along with Ambassador of Taiwan to SVG Fiona Fan, co-hosted the ceremonies, which were well attended by senior education officers as well as the principals, and hundreds of teachers and students from the three schools. The education minister expressed appreciation for the contributions of TX Foundation in practically improving education in SVG, and underscored the importance of Technical and Vocation Educational Training (TVET). He expressed confidence that students will acquire proficiency in a particular field through education. The minister said as well that he believed students from these three educational institutions would keep TX Foundation in mind when using the classrooms and donated equipment.
Minister of Social Development, Keisal Peters, and Minister of Tourism and Culture, Carlos James, attended the ceremonies at the West St. George Secondary School and Troumaca Ontario Secondary School.
Ambassador Fan expressing appreciation for the charitable efforts of the TX Foundation in retrofitting classrooms and donating educational equipment emphasized that this Foundation helps to foster mutual understanding and interaction between the people of Taiwan and SVG. The bilateral friendship will endure, she said. The Ambassador also encouraged the students and faculty of the schools to actively apply for Taiwanese government scholarships to pursue degrees in Taiwan in the future.
The TX Foundation has previously made donations to schools and hospitals in Asia, South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Last year, they headed to the Caribbean, announcing projects of donating educational equipment in countries such as Suriname, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. The classroom retrofitting and equipment donations in St Vincent were part of this project.
