Ministry of Culture to host Remembrance ceremonies for stand-out Vincentians

The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture, is spear-heading a remembrance activity to commemorate the life and service of three notable Vincentians, as activities to celebrate National Heroes and Heritage Month gets started.

The month’s activities are being celebrated under the theme: “ Appreciating our Identity; Preserving our Heritage with Pride”.

In a release, the Department of Culture said on Thursday, March 6, 2025, a Remembrance ceremony will be held at the Calliaqua Anglican Church Cemetery in honour of this country’s first Premier and Prime Minister, Robert Milton Cato; and writer of the National Anthem, Phyllis Punnett. The activity is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m and will have in attendance, Parliamentary Representative for East St George, Camillo Gonsalves, as well as students of the Calliaqua Anglican School, and other community members.

On March 11, 2025, a similar remembrance ceremony will be held at the Kingstown Cemetery in honour of the late Chief Minister, Ebenezer Theodore Joshua. That ceremony is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. At that event remarks will come from representatives of Joshua’s family, trade unions, and Chair of the National Hero’s Advisory Committee, Rene Baptiste. There will also be cultural performances. The Ministry of Tourism has extended invitations to the general public to attend these events.
