South Rivers residents remember ‘Sheep’ as kind and loving
Mourners from South Rivers and other nearby communities gave a fitting send off to the late James Arrington last Sunday, February 23, 2025.
Arrington, popularly known as ‘Sheep’, died on January 29, at the age of 60.
It is alleged that the farmer/handyman drank a portion of poison, mistaking it for alcohol.
He was hospitalized after the incident, and died on January 29. His funeral service on Sunday took place at the Covenant Seventh Day Church in South Rivers, where persons who paid tribute to him, all spoke glowingly about his smile and how kind and loving he was.
Delivering the sermon at the funeral, Pastor Dayne Nichols stirred the congregation, and seemed to have mourners thinking.
“For some people, the most frightening thing about death is leaving all their possession behind,” he said.
“The thought of leaving everything drives some people crazy.”
Reminding mourners that they cannot take anything beyond the grave, he asked, “if you could take only one thing to your grave, what would it be?”
He mentioned that the late reggae icon, Bob Marley, was buried with a guitar, some weed, and a Bible.
He also spoke about two other persons who were buried with items they treasured.
“All of us came into this world empty handed,” the pastor declared.
He reminded mourners at the funeral of former businessman, Theophilus Omroy Mayers ,who was buried in April, 2022.
He said Mayers, who was fondly known as OT, or the Little Man, was buried in box with his hands outside.
The pastor noted that inspite of his wealth, “OT wanted everybody to see that he took nothing with him”.
“OT realized that naked he came and naked he shall go back,” Pastor Nichols pointed out.
“Every baby is born into this world broke and naked.”
Throughout his sermon, Pastor Nichols reminded mourners that salvation is the only thing that can be taken beyond the grave. He ended the sermon by asking mourners “what are you planning to take with you?”
