Conflict of Interest is in ministerial assignment says NDP North Leeward candidate
New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for North Leeward, and President of Cricket West Indies, Dr Kishore Shallow has again stressed that holding the position of President of CWI is not in conflict with him being a candidate for the NDP.
Shallow contends that what is more of a conflict of interest is the appointment by Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves of his son, Camillo Gonsalves as Minister of Finance.
In the latest salvo in an on-going exchange of words between the two, Shallow said on the H0t 97.1 FM AM Mayhem radio show on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, that Prime Minister Gonsalves is objecting to him holding the position of President of Cricket West Indies while throwing his hat in the political ring as a candidate, and he, as well as many other young people, see the Prime Minister’s position as an attack, “on a young black man from poor, humble beginnings”.
He said he believes there are some people who have not accepted the fact that people like him from humble beginnings, “could make it and elevate themselves right out of poverty and reach certain levels,” adding that “…when we get those sorts of attacks from the Prime Minister, it is really confirming such that there are some people whose mindset is still lazy and not up with the time…”.
The Prime Minister has voiced criticisms over Dr. Shallow holding the position of President of CWI while declaring his political candidacy to contest in the upcoming general elections.
