Fogging makes life more bearable for Central Market vendors
Vendors in the Kingstown Central Market are breathing a sigh of relief following the fogging of the facility last Tuesday, February 11, 2025 by the Vector Control Unit within the Ministry of Health.
The vendors had complained that there was an upsurge in the mosquito population at the market resulting from a pool of accumulated water in the basement of the building that provided a breeding ground for the pests.
Yesterday, Thursday, February 13, 2025, the market’s manager, Johnny Jones confirmed that the unit did its fogging on Tuesday and that the situation has improved, but they are not yet out of the woods, and attempts are currently underway to rectify the basement problem where the mosquitoes breed.
Jones said they are working to get the water pumped out of the basement ahead of having the Public Health Department treat the area by setting baits to eradicate the insects.
