Glen man fined $2,900 for illegal cannabis possession
A male resident of Glen who was found with a total of 5,448 grammes of cannabis was fined $2,900 for illegal cannabis possession.
Kelike Browne appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate, Colin John yesterday, February, 10, 2025 where he pleaded guilty that on February, 8, 2025 at Glen, he had in his possession 1816 grammes of cannabis with intent to supply it to another; and 3632 grammes of cannabis with intent to supply it to another. Cannabis is a controlled drug.
The facts are that on the date in question at about 9:50 p.m, PC 146 Cato was one of a party of RRU personnel who were dressed in uniform.
The officers went to the home and premises of Ormando Mofford of Glen to execute a search warrant for unlicensed firearm and ammunition and also controlled drugs, but they did not meet Mofford at home.
Browne, who is of the same address, met the police at the house. Corporal 192 Caesar questioned him and he stated that the house was his.
Cpl Caesar showed and read the search warrant to Browne and he invited the police to search. After the inside of the house was searched, PC 146 Cato took Browne outside to search the premises.
During the search in the presence of other officers, PC 146 Cato found some plant-like material in a brown curtain resembling cannabis.
When cautioned, Browne replied, “Officer it’s my weed, me nah go hide for say that”.
Cato informed Browne of the offence of possession of a controlled drug and told him he was arresting him for same.
Browne was taken to the Calliaqua Police Station, then to the Narcotics base on the following day where PC 146 Cato weighed the exhibit in the presence of Browne and PC 73 Jack.
It amounted to 1816 grammes. After the drugs were sampled, Browne was later charged.
With respect to the second charge, Cpl 192 Caesar saw two plants appearing to be marijuana plants hanging on a string in the bedroom of the house. Cpl 192 Caesar showed it to Browne and cautioned him in PC 382 Pope’s presence.
Browne replied, “Officer me does plant two weed trees in me yard and is them”.
Cpl Caesar continued the search and found a transparent jar with plant materials resembling cannabis and a black plastic bag in the corner of the bedroom.
Cpl Caesar opened the bag which contained 11 transparent plastic bags with plant materials resembling cannabis. The Officer again showed them to Browne and reminded him that he was still under caution.
Browne said, “Officer is my house, all the things them ah mine own”. Cpl 192 Caesar pointed out the offence of possession of a controlled drug to Browne and informed him that he was arresting him.
Browne was taken to the Calliaqua Police Station, and later later to the Narcotics base where the contents of the said black bag and the plants were weighed in his and PC 382 Pope’s presence. Browne was later charged in connection with the drugs.
The Chief Magistrate fined Browne $2,000 for the 3632 grammes of Cannabis to be paid by May 10, 2025 in default of which he will spend three months in prison. Browne also was fined $900 to be paid by April 10, 2025 or spend three months in prison.
